Do my thoughts matter?

Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I Will Stand is a book that focuses on building character.  Living a life of character begins with self evaluation.  Did you ever hear the phrase, "Garbage in, garbage out?"  This referred to bad programming when it came to computers.  If you put corruption in, that is going to be your outward result.  Isn't that the same with us?  We all can tend to get sloppy in what we allow to go into our hearts and minds.  If we fill them up with dirty pictures, dirty words, bad habits, anger, hate, unforgiveness and bitterness, violence, lies and other negative things, that will lead to an outward display of the same.  But if we instead fill our hearts and minds with things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy, then that will lead to a positive display of character.

Latest Update!

Happy New Year!  I Will Stand is coming right along!  The cover is done, and the layout is being finalized.  Then you will be able to order this wonderful devotional book that I pray will be a very useful tool for you in working with your child, or independently.  Please pray as I soon will be trying to make contacts with schools, libraries, civic organizations, etc. to do book signings and talk about my book.  I believe in this book so much, and am so excited about it because I am convinced it will mold and shape lives in a positive way, and encourage and empower young people to live their lives for God with outstanding character.  This can change the world!  That's where reform in our society needs to start - in our hearts.  Then we can build stronger families, and then stronger communities.

I have more good news!  Tate Publishing has accepted my manuscript for "Christmas Love", a wonderful children's book that will be fully illustrated, and bring the message of Christmas as it relates to families today.  My hope is that it will be available by Christmas 2013.

Dawn Foss is a family nurse practitioner and has worked in a school-based health center, and enjoys working in a family practice. She has worked at MidState Christian Academy as the yearbook advisor for four years and serves as the school nurse consultant.  She became a Christian when she was eight years old while at Bible camp. She has been an active church member for thirty years, including working with music with children and adults. She was a bus captain of a bus ministry while a teenager and an AWANA leader with her husband, Sam.  She is the church pianist at Meriden Hills Baptist Church and teaches Sunday school for fourth- through sixth-graders. Dawn lives in Connecticut with her husband, Sam, and their daughters, Amanda and Rebecca.

Update on "I Will Stand" book

Tate Publishing will be starting step 1 of the process of publishing my book in a week: copyediting. While they accepted it in March, it actually was scheduled to start production the beginning of June.  The first thing they do is check my manuscript for any spelling or grammatical errors.

It should be released in December or January.  I am happy with the endorsements I have received so far!  Thank you to everyone who has supported me with writing and publishing my first book!  I am already working on a 2nd book, if God wills.  Some ideas are going through my mind, we'll see if it develops into a wonderful sequel to "I Will Stand."

The importance of investing in the lives of children

These are 2 of my favorite pictures.  This was a missions trip to Brazil in 2008.  My daughter Amanda and I went with a group from Meriden Hills Baptist Church for a couple weeks, and we had the privilege of working with some children at a Christian orphanage outside of Sao Paulo.  The first picture was of a little girl there who went with us ladies to do some shopping, and as you can see we got ice cream, which we both thoroughly enjoyed!

What a blessing when we can take some time out of our busy schedules to be a blessing to the children around us.  They are precious souls!  I guarantee that if you invest in the life of a child to help them find Christ and to live a godly life, not only will they be blessed, but your life will change as well!

My name is Dawn Foss, and I recently wrote a book called, "I Will Stand", which is being published through Tate Publishing.  It is a juvenile reader mainly for kids 8-14 (but is great for all ages!), and is a book of commitment to do what is right, based upon the Word of God.  It has a lot of verses in it (KJV), and is meant to be a wonderful tool to help build Christian character.  It would be great for home use, as well as Sunday School or Christian School classes.

It focuses on 12 main points, such as "I will stand for purity, for honesty, excellence, faithfulness, kindness and forgiveness, love, life, honoring parents and those in authority", etc.  It's encouraging, encouraging, encouraging.  I hope it will encourage kids to be "Champions of Character!"  Each point has a self assessment and a challenge, and at the end the child can write his or her own commitment to God.  I will submit posts as the book goes through the various stages of completion.

My purpose for writing this book is to encourage young people to dedicate their lives to Christ, to be used by God in great and mighty ways like only they can do!  As they become adults, they can continue to follow that path of greatness for God, not because of how great any of us are, but because of how great God is! 

Young person: you CAN make a difference, but you have to be set apart, living life with purpose and on purpose, and with a life of purity and devotedness.  This requires a PERSONAL relationship with Jesus Christ.  No one can make you love Him or want to serve Him.  This must come from within you and you alone.  As you make that commitment, you will find that every area of your life will have meaning, and you will have joy and peace regardless of your circumstances.
